A Glimpse into ACDC Dencun Interop Testing Call: Ethereum Clients Unite, Testing for Network Upgrade

Ethereum's Devnet 11 and 12 updates, from Prysm's spec changes to Lighthouse's innovative QUIC adoption.

A Glimpse into ACDC Dencun Interop Testing Call: Ethereum Clients Unite, Testing for Network Upgrade

The recent ACDC Dencun Interop Testing Call #36 provided valuable insights into the latest updates and plans for Ethereum's Devnet 11 and the upcoming Devnet 12. Let's explore the highlights of the meeting and discover what Ethereum clients are doing to enhance the network's performance.

Devnet 11 Updates

Prysm: "We're still working towards the latest spec which is the block inclusion format changes," said Terence from Prysm. The team estimates completing these changes in the next 2-3 weeks, with a plan to join Devnet 12 as soon as they're ready.

Lighthouse: Proto from Lighthouse highlighted, "We're reviewing all changes for Devnet 11." A notable suggestion from the team is the adoption of QUIC for Devnet 12, aiming to enhance network efficiency.

Nethermind: Nethermind is taking a distinctive approach, running tests with nodes capable of handling blob-transaction re-orgs. The call stressed the importance of testing reorgs on Devnet 11, a process not extensively explored yet. "We can test non-finality, but re-orgs may be harder on Devnets. We should try to do this with the chaos testing tool realistically," suggested Proto from Lighthouse.

Lodestar: Lodestar shared, "We now import blocks ASAP instead of waiting on blobs." The team has settled on a final architecture for the changes, aiming to enhance the client's efficiency.

Devnet 12 Preparations

Client Readiness: "Teku, Lodestar, and Lighthouse are ready for** Devnet 12**," confirmed the team. Further confirmation is needed on Ethereum clients' branches, and Nimbus' status is yet to be confirmed.

Hive Interop Updates: The Hive Interop platform is actively incorporating the latest consensus spec changes. "Lighthouse, Teku, and Lodestar are successfully running paired with Nethermind," shared Mario from Hive.

Testing Strategies

  1. Re-Org Testing Challenges: "We should try to do this with the chaos testing tool realistically," suggested Proto from Lighthouse. Various strategies, including chaos testing tools and starting validators on different subnets, were proposed to trigger re-org scenarios.

The ACDC Dencun Interop Testing Call #36 provided a comprehensive overview of the current status and future plans for Ethereum Devnets. With active collaboration and innovative testing strategies, Ethereum clients are gearing up for the next phase of network development. As the community eagerly awaits the launch of Devnet 12, these testing efforts play a crucial role in ensuring a robust and reliable Ethereum network.
