Shopify, a Canadian multi-channel, e-commerce platform for online stores and retail point-of-sale systems now added Coinbase Commerce to accept multiple cryptocurrency. Shopify is actively adding more integrations to make accepting cryptocurrency as easy as possible. Bitcoin is already being accepted by using BitPay. Now, users can make payments in Ethereum, Bitcoin Cash and Litecoin too.

Coinbase Commerce is a new service added by Coinbase, a US based popular digital asset exchange that allows user to buy and sell digital asset using fiat currency. It adds a new method of payment for merchants around the world. Now, they can accept payments in digital assets such as Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash, Ethereum and Litecoin using Coinbase Commerce. It can be directly integrated into a merchant’s checkout flow or added as a payment option on an e-commerce platform.

It enables merchants to accept digital asset or cryptocurrencies directly into a user-controlled cryptocurrency wallet. In a blog today, introducing Coinbase Commerce, it reads,

"Our mission at Coinbase is to create an open financial system, so we’ve designed this solution to serve merchants worldwide. Unlike previous merchant products we’ve offered, Coinbase Commerce is not a hosted service, so merchants have full control of their own digital currency."

Coinbase Commerce can be directly integrated into a merchant’s checkout flow or added as a payment option on an e-commerce platform. With just an email address and a phone, merchants can sign up and begin accepting payments in Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash, Ethereum and Litecoin. It’s easier than ever to start accepting cryptocurrency for merchants across the world.

This is another big step towards bringing digital currency for mass adoption. Today, cryptocurrency is mostly viewed as an "asset", an investment to gain profit in long term. The real purpose of it being "currency" will be served if it is actively contributing in commerce, becomes the integral part of our economic system. Hope to see many more adoption of it coming soon.
