Joseph Lubin Visits RBI During Devcon 8 India
Ethereum co founder Joseph Lubin visits India's RBI during Devcon 8, bringing Ethereum's decentralised infrastructure vision into conversation with India's financial institutions.
Ethereum co founder Joseph Lubin visited the Reserve Bank of India on November 5, 2026, during his time in India for Devcon 8. The visit brought together representatives from the Ethereum ecosystem and India's central banking institution for a discussion that highlighted the importance of communication between technology developers and financial authorities.
Tanvi Ratna shared details of the meeting, describing it as an opportunity to connect two worlds that rarely engage directly but have important perspectives to exchange.
Joseph Lubin Visits RBI Alongside Tanvi Ratna & Ethereum Representatives
The visit was shared publicly by Tanvi Ratna through a post on X dated November 5, 2026. She revealed that she had the opportunity to take Joseph Lubin, Ethereum co founder, and Tom, co initiator of the Ethereum Economic Zone, to the Reserve Bank of India.
Ratna described the meeting as a fascinating exchange between people working in different areas of the financial and technological landscape. She highlighted the importance of bringing together institutional expertise and blockchain development, noting that both sides understand different aspects of similar challenges.
According to her post, the interaction offered an opportunity for these two communities to communicate directly. She also expressed her appreciation for being able to facilitate a conversation that could open doors to further collaboration.
Ethereum's Decentralised Infrastructure Takes Centre Stage
Ratna also shared her perspective on Ethereum's development and its position within the broader blockchain industry.
While acknowledging that people have different opinions about the direction Ethereum should take, she described it as an ecosystem that remains committed to developing genuinely decentralised infrastructure.
Her comments point towards an important aspect of the RBI interaction. Ethereum's development is not limited to building blockchain applications. Its broader vision involves creating infrastructure that supports decentralised systems and allows different participants to interact without depending entirely on traditional centralised structures.
She suggested that the next stage of Ethereum's evolution will require conversations with people and institutions operating outside its immediate ecosystem.
The RBI visit was presented as one step towards making those conversations possible.
A #Devcon8 moment I'll remember: having the opportunity to take @ethereum co-founder @ethereumJoseph and @etheconomiczone co-initiator @tw_tter to the Reserve Bank of India (@RBI) for a fascinating exchange today.
It was an honor to bring together two worlds that rarely speak the same language. Both have rich perspectives on the same problems and can make big leaps happen when they work together.
People have had plenty to say about Ethereum's direction. To me, it has always been the ecosystem most clear-eyed and committed to building genuinely decentralised infrastructure. The next chapter of Ethereum's evolution will need conversations across very different worlds and today was a good step in that direction.
The technological frontier is moving at warp speed globally, and India has an important role to play in shaping what comes next. Some of the most exciting possibilities emerge when technological breakthroughs meet deep institutional expertise, creating opportunities neither world might have imagined on its own.
Life brought me to India for personal reasons. But I've been struck by how much is happening here, often well outside the world's attention. From crypto and financial infrastructure to semiconductors, energy, AI and industrial manufacturing, some extraordinary developments are taking shape.
Looking forward to sharing much more of what I'm seeing, learning and helping bring to life in India.
This is just the beginning.

India's Financial Institutions & Technology Sector Have an Important Role
Another major point in Ratna's post was India's growing importance in shaping the future of technology.
She observed that technological development is accelerating globally and believes India has an important role in determining what comes next. She particularly highlighted the opportunities that emerge when technological breakthroughs meet the experience and knowledge of established institutions.
Her comments covered several areas where India is witnessing significant activity, including cryptocurrency, financial infrastructure, semiconductors, energy, artificial intelligence and industrial manufacturing.
Ratna noted that many developments across these sectors are taking place without receiving sufficient international attention.
She also suggested that collaboration between technology innovators and established institutions could create opportunities that neither side might identify independently.
For Ethereum, conversations with financial institutions such as the RBI offer an opportunity to understand how blockchain infrastructure fits into the wider institutional environment.
Devcon 8 India Provides the Backdrop to the RBI Meeting
The RBI visit took place during the Devcon 8 period in India. The Ethereum Foundation's flagship developer conference is being held in Mumbai from November 3 to November 6, 2026.
The event brings together developers, researchers and members of the Ethereum ecosystem from different parts of the world. Joseph Lubin's presence in India during this period provided an opportunity for conversations beyond the conference itself.
Ratna also shared that her personal circumstances brought her to India, but her experience of the country's ongoing developments had left a strong impression on her.
She expressed interest in sharing more about what she is observing, learning and helping bring to life in India.
Her post ended with a clear indication that the RBI interaction was not intended to be an isolated conversation. She described it as the beginning of further engagement between different communities working on technology and financial infrastructure.
