X Is Adding Direct Crypto Trade Buttons

Nikita Bier says X crypto trade buttons are coming soon, expanding Cashtags with direct access to trading.

X Is Adding Direct Crypto Trade Buttons

According to Nikita Bier, X is coming closer to using its cryptocurrency Cashtags as a trading tool. Trade buttons are "coming soon," according to the former X head of product, expanding on the Cashtags feature he developed earlier this year. The feature allows users to paste token contract addresses and already incorporates real-time Ethereum and Solana price charts into X posts. Even while X won't be the broker or execute the deals, the intended buttons could make trading much simpler.

Nikita Bier Reveals X Trade Buttons Are Coming

On August 25, Bier responded to a post on X about cryptocurrency activity and revealed the future trading buttons. He stated that trade buttons will be the next phase and cited Cashtags as a feature he personally developed.

His remarks are noteworthy because Cashtags presently offer market data without requiring users to complete a cryptocurrency transaction within X. The real trading process still happens elsewhere, but users can find an asset, see its price chart, and follow discussions about it.

Additionally, Bier emphasised that users can enter contract addresses for recently minted coins straight into X. As a result, Cashtags can now identify fresh assets using their blockchain addresses, going beyond well-known ticker symbols.

Cashtags Already Bring Solana & Ethereum Charts to X

The suggested trade buttons already have a foundation. For iPhone users in the United States and Canada, X released an improved Cashtags feature in April that enables users to tap compatible tickers and view current financial data alongside pertinent messages.

The feature enables Ethereum and Solana assets for cryptocurrency users. Another method for users to retrieve asset information straight from the platform is to paste contract addresses to locate recently issued tokens.

The launch swiftly demonstrated that financial activity on X was in demand. Although the feature itself did not carry out those trades, Bier claimed that the Cashtags trial produced over $1 billion in trading volume in its first two days. While U.S. customers did not initially have an analogous trading integration, Canadian users were also provided a way to trade certain assets through Wealthsimple.

X Still Will Not Execute Crypto Trades

It's not certain that X will become a cryptocurrency exchange because of the future buttons. Bier had previously made it clear that X would concentrate on financial data tools and connections that link consumers to trading services rather than managing trade execution or serving as a brokerage.

This divergence is still significant in light of the most recent announcement. Although the actual execution can still take place through an outside trading platform, the trade button may provide consumers with a considerably quicker route from finding a token on X to making an order.

In practical terms, instead of leaving X to start the process somewhere else, the user may see a Solana or Ethereum token in a post, view its Cashtag, check the live chart, and then click a trade button.

X Could Put Trading Directly Inside the Crypto Feed

The gap between cryptocurrency trading and debate would be the largest shift. Cashtags link the vast quantity of real-time token talks that X already has with current market data. The transaction phase would be far closer to that content if trade buttons were added.

However, Bier is no longer the head of product at X. Since he resigned on August 5 and is still serving as an adviser, the product team is now in charge of the rollout under his successor.

The trade buttons' official release date is currently unknown, and X has not made any public announcements about the feature via its corporate accounts. The scope of the trading functionality is yet unknown because the current Cashtags rollout only covers a small number of markets.

As of right now, the trade-button announcement has not been linked to any documented loss or hack-related loss. This is neither an exploit nor a financial loss occurrence, but rather an update related to product development. The crucial question is whether trading providers will support the buttons and when X will actually activate them.
