Trueo Leaves Base for Ethereum Mainnet
Trueo is moving its prediction market platform from Base to Ethereum mainnet, citing deeper liquidity, decentralization and stronger long term network effects.
Prediction market protocol Trueo is preparing to move from Coinbase’s Base network to Ethereum mainnet. Trueo announced the decision on September 21, saying Ethereum’s lower execution costs, liquidity, network effects & long term positioning now make mainnet the more attractive environment for the protocol.
Trueo has asked users considering markets that expire after January 31, 2027 to wait for the Ethereum instance instead. Ethereum co founder Vitalik Buterin also welcomed the development, pointing to Trueo as a new decentralized prediction market competitor being built directly on Ethereum L1.
Why Trueo Is Moving From Base to Ethereum
According to the team, Ethereum mainnet provides the strongest combination of these properties because of its liquidity, global distribution, established DeFi infrastructure & comparatively neutral protocol roadmap. That reasoning is particularly interesting because Ethereum’s scaling strategy has spent years directing high volume applications toward Layer 2 networks such as Base, Optimism & Arbitrum.
As EtherWorld previously covered in Ethereum Foundation Redraws the Map Between L1 & L2, Ethereum Foundation researchers increasingly describe L1 as a highly resilient global settlement, liquidity & shared state layer, while L2s become environments differentiated by specialised capabilities rather than simply cheaper execution.
Ethereum L1 still gives applications direct access to one of crypto’s largest pools of onchain capital while removing another execution environment between the application & Ethereum settlement. Ethereum has also been working toward significantly increasing L1 capacity.
Recent core developer discussions have explored much higher gas limits as protocol improvements reduce execution bottlenecks. EtherWorld covered the progression toward a higher capacity Ethereum in Ethereum Protocol Update: ACDE #243.
Meanwhile, longer term designs could expand Ethereum even further. Vitalik’s Bitcoin Inspired Plan for Ethereum describes research into UTXO style state & recursive proofs that could allow some categories of activity to scale without expanding permanent state at the same rate.
Prediction markets have grown into a significant crypto application category, yet much of that activity takes place outside Ethereum mainnet. Trueo argues that this creates room for a prediction market that directly taps Ethereum’s existing DeFi ecosystem without competing in an already crowded application environment.

What Happens to Trueo Users on Base?
Trueo says its Base deployment will continue supporting trading, market resolution & redemption, meaning current markets are not being abruptly migrated or closed. Existing markets will continue until their respective expiry dates.
However, Trueo is discouraging users from creating new Base markets that expire after January 31, 2027. Those longer duration markets should instead wait for the Ethereum version to become available.
The TRUE token will also move to Ethereum mainnet. Future staking & liquidity incentive programmes are expected to operate on Ethereum mainnet.
Base remains one of Ethereum’s largest Layer 2 ecosystems & has played an important role in bringing consumer applications onchain. EtherWorld previously examined its decentralization & security model in Not Just Servers: Vitalik Defends Base & Security of L2s.
Glad to see that Ethereum L1 will have a new strong prediction market contender that is dedicated to decentralization, and being ethical and not corposlop, and to actually trying to do interesting and meaningful things with this class of economic primitive.…

Why Vitalik Is Interested in Trueo’s Model
During Ethereum’s tenth anniversary discussions, Buterin described prediction & decision markets as potentially useful mechanisms for governance, public goods funding & collective decision making. EtherWorld explored those ideas in Ethereum 2035: Vitalik’s Vision for the Next Decade.
According to Trueo’s documentation, market titles, resolution criteria & approved data sources are committed onchain when a market launches. Liquidity provision & order matching also occur onchain, while outcomes use an optimistic oracle system with permissionless disputes.
A trading system may be decentralized at the transaction layer but still depend heavily on whoever determines whether an event actually happened. Contested outcomes can therefore move the trust problem from trading infrastructure to market resolution.
For example, Vitalik’s Options Based DeFi Model Explained examined his proposal for reducing dependence on fragile real time oracle systems in synthetic assets.
EtherWorld later covered ongoing development around the idea in Vitalik Buterin Says Options Based DeFi Is Already Taking Shape, where robust oracle design & formal verification remained central concerns. Recent discussion around Trueo has similarly focused on how prediction market resolution can remain decentralized while avoiding manipulation.
What Trueo’s Move Says About Ethereum L1
For years, Ethereum’s answer to scaling was overwhelmingly rollup centric. L1 would provide settlement & security while most users interacted through Layer 2 networks.
Ethereum Foundation researchers now describe L2s as specialised environments capable of offering features that L1 cannot easily provide, while Ethereum itself scales as a highly resilient financial & settlement layer. This transition is examined in Ethereum Foundation Redraws the Map Between L1 & L2 & in EtherWorld’s coverage of The Future of Ethereum Sequencing & The Road Ahead.
Vitalik Buterin Outlines Ethereum’s Lean Vision describes a network increasingly built around scalable state, recursive STARKs, stronger cryptography & preserving decentralization despite higher throughput.
The Ethereum Foundation has also emphasized self sovereignty, censorship resistance & limiting hidden trust assumptions across the ecosystem. EtherWorld covered those priorities in Ethereum Foundation Reveals Its New Playbook for Ethereum’s Future.
