Soneium Announces $SONEIUM Token & Tokenized IP

On October 26, 2026, Soneium, Sony's Ethereum Layer 2 blockchain network, revealed plans to launch $SONEIUM, its native ecosystem token, as part of a larger project centred on tokenised IP.

Through a shared onchain entertainment economy, the project seeks to link creators, intellectual property owners, application developers, fans, and investors. With more than 250 applications now in use for music, video games, anime, movies, and collectables, Soneium aims to facilitate the funding, support, and development of creative works into long-term commercial potential.

$SONEIUM Token to Connect Creators & Investors

Instead of serving as a stand-alone financial asset, the proposed $SONEIUM token is intended to link the various players in Soneium's entertainment ecosystem. Fans can take part in entertainment experiences, developers can create applications based on intellectual property, creators can create new works, and owners of intellectual property can bring their properties on-chain. The financial prospects these enterprises provide are also accessible to investors.

Soneium intends that the token will assist in coordinating these users with the expansion of its network. Its function is linked to the larger ecosystem, which allows capital, communities, and creative ventures to communicate through shared blockchain infrastructure.

However, the announcement describes a plan rather than a completed token launch. Soneium has not issued $SONEIUM, and further details about the token generation event are expected to be announced later. The timing and terms of any future issuance remain subject to applicable laws and regulatory requirements.

Tokenized IP Opens New Funding Opportunities

A key component of Soneium's suggested entertainment economy is tokenised intellectual property. By bringing intellectual property onto the blockchain, the strategy links communities interested in supporting the work of creators and rights holders with financial options. Its goal is to support the creation of commercial value for intellectual properties while preserving the ownership of the underlying rights.

IP Tokens, IP Vaults, and Tokenised IP Bonds are the three types of tokenised IP that Soneium recognises. A studio, a particular entertainment title, or a single creator can all be represented by an IP token. Depending on how it is designed, it could be a fungible token used in a specific intellectual property system or a collectable that symbolises fandom.

The first IP Token in this effort is Moriusa, a character property owned by Tokyo-based entertainment company Super State Holdings. Opportunities like tangible goods, animated short series, and more extensive license agreements can be supported by the community, and the property's development may present chances for fans to take part in its expansion.

The purpose of IP vaults is to make entertainment investment options, such as music catalogue funds, accessible. By linking investments with entertainment companies and their revenue-generating operations, tokenised IP bonds provide an alternative.

Soneium Brings K Pop Royalties On-chain

Through a collaboration with DayOneDream, a South Korean entertainment organisation that oversees performers, events, and entertainment franchises, Soneium is expanding its Tokenised IP strategy into well-established music companies. BTOB, Lee Chae Yeon, MEMI, and 2F are on its roster.

Through Tokenised IP Bonds, the partnership aims to transfer concert business earnings from well-known K-pop musicians onto the blockchain. This allows investors and fans to share in the value created by entertainment intellectual property and live tours.

The project focuses on revenue from current entertainment activities rather than restricting blockchain participation to digital collectables. While creators and rights holders continue to be essential to the growth and management of their properties, concert royalties and other IP-related opportunities can be included in a structured investment strategy.

The official tool for finding and taking advantage of Tokenised IP opportunities will be the Soneium Portal. By bringing creative projects and potential sponsors together in one location, it aims to boost early sales, fan interaction, and royalty distribution.

ERC 8432 Supports IP Registration & Licensing

Additionally, Soneium is building the technical framework required for on-chain intellectual property management. The IP Registry, IP Graph, and IP Execution Layer are the three parts of the system. These work together to map links between registered properties, organise them, and facilitate the implementation of income distributions and license agreements.

The network is compatible with ERC 8432, an open Ethereum standard that enables both humans and AI agents to read intellectual property documents and licensing terms. The standard offers a uniform interface for registering and confirming agreements on-chain, publishing machine-readable licence terms, and identifying tokenised IP assets.

Platforms and developers can verify license permits and settle agreements programmatically without relying on a single platform thanks to this approach. Additionally, rather than superseding the underlying legal rights, it links the technical management of intellectual property with current copyright regimes.

A portal to the ecosystem is provided by the Startale App in addition to the Soneium Portal. Users can explore apps, manage digital assets, transfer money between compatible networks, and accrue points through ecosystem activities. The goal of these technologies is to facilitate the discovery of projects and participation in the entertainment economy.
