MetaMask Adds 200+ Tokenized US Stocks & ETFs

MetaMask now supports 200+ tokenised US stocks & ETFs, bringing Wall Street assets on-chain through blockchain finance.

MetaMask Adds 200+ Tokenized US Stocks & ETFs

MetaMask, the widely used self-custodial cryptocurrency wallet from Consensys, has introduced a major update. The wallet has partnered with Ondo Global Markets, enabling access to more than 200 tokenised U.S. equities and exchange-traded funds (ETFs) directly within the MetaMask mobile wallet.

As a result, eligible non-U.S. users can now buy, hold, and trade tokenised stocks and ETFs through MetaMask without requiring a traditional brokerage account.

This launch reflects a broader trend in which blockchain technology is increasingly used to bridge traditional financial markets with decentralised finance (DeFi). Tokenised assets are a clear example of this convergence, offering global investors digital access to familiar financial instruments.

On-Chain Access to Wall Street

This update represents a significant milestone for MetaMask. The wallet is no longer limited to cryptocurrency storage; instead, MetaMask is using blockchain technology to connect users directly to traditional financial markets.

Through its partnership with Ondo Finance, MetaMask now allows eligible users to access U.S. stocks and ETFs without relying on a brokerage firm. This substantially lowers the barrier to entry for international investors seeking exposure to U.S. financial markets.

The move reflects a wider industry shift toward tokenised real-world assets (RWAs), where instruments such as stocks, bonds, and commodities are represented on-chain.

For users, this translates into self-custody, fractional ownership, faster settlement, and reduced reliance on intermediaries, all while tracking real-world market prices. The update highlights how decentralised wallets are evolving into comprehensive financial platforms.

MetaMask Wallet Features

With the introduction of tokenised assets, MetaMask users gain access to several new capabilities:

  • Access to more than 200 tokenised U.S. equities and ETFs. The initial set includes well-known companies such as Tesla, Apple, Microsoft, and NVIDIA, as well as tokenised commodities like gold and silver.
  • A unified portfolio view that allows users to manage cryptocurrencies and tokenised traditional assets from a single wallet interface.
  • 24/5 trading via MetaMask Swaps, with transactions executed using USDC on the Ethereum mainnet, from Sunday evening through Friday evening.
  • 24/7 token transferability, meaning assets can be sent or received outside standard market hours.

By enabling users to hold traditional financial exposure alongside digital assets, this update shifts MetaMask from a crypto-focused wallet to a broader digital finance hub.

Global Accessibility and Restrictions

The feature is currently available to eligible users in select regions outside the United States. Due to regulatory and compliance constraints, users in the United States, the European Union, the United Kingdom, Canada, and certain other jurisdictions do not yet have access.

The rollout will initially focus on users in permitted regions later this month, with desktop access supported through MetaMask’s browser extension.

These limitations reflect existing securities regulations that restrict the offering of tokenised representations of U.S.-listed stocks and exchange-traded funds (ETFs) in certain markets. Regulatory clarity remains a key factor in determining future expansion.

How Trading Works?

Eligible users can trade tokenised stocks and ETFs through MetaMask Swaps. Users begin by funding their Ethereum wallet with USDC and then selecting from more than 200 tokenised equities and ETFs offered via Ondo Global Markets.

While tokens can be transferred at any time, buy and sell orders can only be placed when U.S. markets are open, operating 24 hours per day from Monday through Friday, excluding weekends and holidays.

Trading these tokenised assets is designed to feel similar to trading cryptocurrencies. Once purchased, assets appear directly in the wallet and can be held, transferred, or exchanged like any other token.

Fractional ownership is supported, allowing participation without purchasing full shares, and prices mirror the underlying securities. Traditional brokerage onboarding is removed, as all activity takes place within MetaMask.

Bridging Finance and Blockchain

MetaMask’s expansion into tokenised equities reflects the financial sector’s broader effort to improve accessibility through blockchain technology. Capabilities once limited to large brokers and financial institutions are becoming available to individual users through decentralised tools.

By combining traditional investment exposure with decentralised finance infrastructure, MetaMask is reshaping how users interact with financial markets and tokenised securities.

This development further reinforces blockchain’s role in modern finance, positioning digital wallets as unified platforms for managing multiple asset classes rather than solely as tools for cryptocurrency custody.
