CoinDCX & Goa Police Launch Cyber Awareness Drive

The Goa Police have started a cyber safety awareness campaign with CoinDCX. The campaign is to help people understand how cybercrime works, keep their information safe, and spot warning signs, as digital fraud and scams are increasing fast in India.

It also shows that we need to educate people on how to prevent cybercrime, not just catch the perpetrators, as more Indians are going online for everything. The campaign aims to promote online behaviour and better reporting of cyber threats.

Why Cybercrime Awareness is a National Priority?

We are more connected than ever in our lives in India as we move further into the digital age. We use apps to shop, pay bills online, send money with a tap and even access government services. With this increased convenience, new risks have also emerged.

Data from the National Crime Records Bureau under the Ministry of Home Affairs shows that cybercrime is growing at a rate. In 2023, 86,420 cases of cybercrime were reported in India, up from 65,893 in 2022, a 31.2% rise in just one year. The number of cybercrime cases per lakh people went up from 4.8 to 6.2. Here, almost 68% of the cases were about financial fraud.

These numbers represent individuals affected by identity theft, fraud and scams online. So, understanding the risks in the world and staying aware is not just important; it is a must right now.

How the CoinDCX-Goa Initiative Works?

The Goa Police and CoinDCX are working together on Syber Surakshit Goem, a cyber safety awareness drive. With this initiative, they want to teach people in Goa about how to be safe on the internet.

They are going to public spaces, colleges, and communities to talk to people and explain everything about cyber threats. Their main purpose is to educate people on how to spot fake links and how to keep their devices and accounts safe.

The Goa Police and CoinDCX want people to know everything that they can report things that happen on the internet. They want to ensure people's safety when they are surfing the net. The Cyber Surakshit Goem initiative is making it easier for people to understand safety.

Government Tools to Report & Fight Cybercrime

Lots of people do not know what to do when something goes wrong on the internet. The Indian government has made it easy for people to report cybercrime and get help to fix it. You can report fraud, hacking or identity theft from your home using the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal.

If you need help, you can call the Indian Cybercrime Coordination Centre's helpline at 1930. They are available all the time. This is especially helpful if someone is trying to cheat you out of money. The government made these systems to make it easier and less scary for people to report cybercrime.

The government hopes that by making it easy for people to complain, cybercrime will be dealt quickly. The government wants people to feel safe and able to do something when they're in trouble online. The Indian government wants people to use the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal to report cybercrime and get help.

Community Awareness: A Key to Prevention

Authorities believe that the best way to stop cybercrime is by educating the public. Many cybercrimes happen because people are not aware of digital safety. The Goa Police and CoinDCX are working together to educate people about cyberthreats so that people are less fearful and more confident.

As more people in India are using internet services and digital payments, scammers are taking advantage of this with fake links and deceptive messages. This campaign is to raise awareness among citizens and to ensure that they stay vigilant about such happenings.

The program teaches people effective safety practices. These include keeping software up to date, making passwords, avoiding unknown links and reporting fraud to the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal right away. The program uses workshops, live demonstrations and community discussions to educate people about these practices.
