Official Mainnet Merge Announcement

Ethereum is moving to proof-of-stake. The Bellatrix upgrade is scheduled for epoch 144896 on the Beacon Chain at 11:34:47am UTC on Sept 6, 2022. The TTD value triggering The Merge is 58750000000000000000000, expected between Sept 10-20, 2022. Here is an official announcement from Ethereum Foundation Team.

Client Releases to Support Merge

All client releases (EL & CL) to support The Merge on the Ethereum mainnet are out now. Given Below is a quick recap from Team.

No Bugs in Nethermind Release

According to Łukasz Rozmej, there are misconceptions about bugs in Nethermind v1.14.0 Release. But all of them are false. Furthermore, Devs wanted to upgrade the RocksDB version, and in v1.13.5, they accidentally released the version that had performance degradation, which devs reverted later in v1.13.6. Also, in the latest release, Devs have upgraded RocksDb to the version that didn't cause any performance regressions.

Geth Bug Resolved

Geth v1.10.23, i.e., a hotfix to patch a state corruption in 1.10.22 is released now. Here is the link to PR that fixes it. If anyone updated to v1.10.22 in the past couple of days, there is a fairly high probability that some state data might have gone missing from their node. To ensure that the node has all the data, users who have updated their node can rewind their local chain to a block before the update. Here is the link to know more.

Rust Implementation of Consensus Specs

Alex Stokes has announced the first release alabaster of ethereum-consensus, i.e., an implementation of the consensus-specs written in the rust language. This version implements the phase0, altair, and bellatrix forks of the spec and passes version v1.1.10 of the consensus-spec-tests. In the next version, developers will focus on optimizing the performance. Here is the link to now more.

1hr Flashbots Protect Downtime

According to Robert Miller, Flashbots Protect can suffer from 1hr of downtime as mev-boost is planned to go live after ~10 epochs have been finalized after the merge. Here is the reference for users and developers to plan accordingly.
