With the Fusaka upgrade slated to ship on mainnet in early November 2025, Ethereum’s core developers have already turned their attention to the subsequent “Glamsterdam” hard fork. At the ACDE #216 call on July 17, teams outlined an ambitious roadmap to determine key feature “headliners,” freeze the spec, & ultimately launch Glamsterdam mainnet within a year’s time.
Headliner Selection Phase
Timeline: Over the next two ACDE calls (late July & early August)
Client teams have shared their EL-side preferences, narrowing the field to Block-Level Access Lists & the FOCIL as frontrunners. These features will define Glamsterdam’s thematic focus, whether on L1 scanning efficiency or enhanced state-bloat resilience.
Proposal Deadline & Spec Freeze
Deadline: August 21, 2025
To avoid last-minute scope creep, developers aim to finalize headliner choices & close submissions for regular EIPs by August 21. This cut-off will allow reviewers to merge, audit & document all included EIPs before entering the testnet phase.
Testnet & Audit Windows
The rollout process begins with cutting dedicated client release branches in late 2025 to mirror the frozen spec. In early 2026, one or more public testnets will be spun up to surface interoperability issues under realistic network conditions. Finally, a pair of 30-day windows for security audits & community bug hunts, i.e., before and after each testnet fork will mirror the successful Fusaka model and provide the resilience and developer feedback needed before committing to mainnet.
Conclusion
Ethereum’s roadmap for Glamsterdam targets a mainnet activation in H1 2026, i.e., roughly six months after spec freeze. With final dates hinging on locked headliners and released branches, the community must stay engaged with ACDE discussions, review candidate EIPs, and jump into upcoming bug bounties.
