Highlights of ACD Call

Here’s a quick summary of the major updates from Ethereum's All Core Devs Meeting #201:

  • Devnet Updates
Mekong Testnet: The testnet is performing well, with 97% attestation success, but there are some ongoing issues with Ethereum.js and Nimbus EL. The Grandine team has already resolved many critical bugs.
Devnet 5: The team is preparing for the official launch, with just a few PRs left to merge. Key updates focus on Execution APIs and SSZ support, and final tweaks are being made to EIP-7691, which addresses block size adjustments.

  • Pectra Scope Finalization
BLS Gas Pricing: There’s a debate over the best gas pricing model for BLS operations. A more granular pricing structure is preferred to ensure both performance and cost-effectiveness.
EIP-7623: This proposal caps transaction payload sizes to improve network performance and security. While it looks promising, further testing and adjustments are needed before it’s included.
EIP-7762: This proposal suggests adjusting blob base fees to stabilize rollup pricing. It has received mixed feedback due to the added complexity involved in implementation.
    History Expiry and Protocol Changes
EIP-7639: This proposal aims to reduce the storage of old pre-Merge data, saving significant disk space. It introduces Protocol Version 71, which stops the serving of old block data. The team is also discussing whether a separate sub-protocol is needed to manage historical data requests.
