Ethereum’s upcoming Fusaka upgrade continues to be stress-tested, with shadowforks serving as a critical stage. In the recent All Core Devs – Testing (ACDT) #52 call, developers highlighted key blockers affecting progress, especially around Geth & Erigon clients.

What is Shadowfork Testing?

Shadowfork testing mirrors Ethereum’s mainnet environment, allowing developers to simulate upcoming protocol upgrades. By replicating live chain conditions, it provides a safe space to identify bugs, incompatibilities, and regressions before deployment.

For Fusaka, shadowforks are essential to ensuring stability ahead of Devnet 5 and eventual mainnet rollout.

Current Blockers in Geth & Erigon

During ACDT #52, core developers identified major blockers in blob schedule fields. These inconsistencies are stalling shadowfork synchronization.

Additionally, Geth reported a regression that is still under investigation, raising concerns about client readiness. These issues must be resolved to proceed smoothly with Fusaka testing.

Impact on Fusaka Timeline

Shadowfork blockers could delay the Devnet 5 launch, initially targeted for this week. With Fusaka’s success depending on cross-client compatibility, developers are closely monitoring bug fixes from Geth & Erigon teams.

While most other clients (Prysm, Teku, Lighthouse, Lodestar, Reth, Nethermind) are near-ready, unresolved regressions may push timelines further. Shadowfork testing serves as Ethereum’s safety net before upgrades like Fusaka hit production.

The current blockers in Geth & Erigon underline the complexity of maintaining client diversity while pushing forward protocol evolution. Progress updates are expected soon, and the community will be watching closely as developers prepare for Devnet 5 readiness checks.
