Ethereum’s Next 10 Years: Tim Beiko Outlines Ethereum's Roadmap

At the 10 Years of Ethereum Livestream, Tim Beiko, a key Ethereum Foundation contributor & coordinator of protocol development calls, presented a vision of Ethereum’s roadmap. Instead of focusing only on the next hard fork, he zoomed out to highlight the major opportunities & challenges that will define Ethereum’s next decade. His message was clear: Ethereum must continue its journey of turning the impossible into the inevitable.

L1-ZK EVM: Zero-Knowledge Ethereum

A few years ago, the idea of running Ethereum fully on zero-knowledge proofs seemed far-fetched. Today, dozens of teams are actively building ZK-EVMs capable of generating real-time cryptographic proofs of Ethereum’s state.

If successful, this will make Ethereum verifiable by anyone, anywhere, with minimal computational resources, i.e., ensuring radical decentralization, censorship-resistance & security at the base layer.

"What was once “impossible” is now edging toward inevitability."

Securing the Global Economy On-Chain

In its early days, Ethereum was dominated by experiments, scams & gambling apps. Over time, DeFi emerged, and stablecoins became the first crypto product to achieve global product-market fit.

The next challenge is bigger: How can Ethereum secure trillions of dollars on-chain?

This requires robust infrastructure, scalability & rock-solid security guarantees. Ethereum must evolve into a backbone for the global financial system, supporting payments, capital markets, tokenized real-world assets & even government-level financial systems.

Ethereum is more than a blockchain as it embodies a philosophy of transparency, decentralization & collaboration. Tim highlighted how these values are already inspiring experiments outside of crypto.

Ethereum is also positioned as a foundation for emerging technologies like AI. Its transparency & verifiability can serve as guardrails to ensure AI agents operate securely & ethically.

Conclusion

Over the next decade, Ethereum aims to:

  • Make ZK-EVMs inevitable.
  • Secure trillions in economic value on-chain.
  • Export its values of decentralization to culture, governance & physical communities.
  • Act as a bridge technology for AI, privacy & identity.

Ethereum’s next decade is about scaling ambition, i.e., from moving from experiments to systems that underpin global economies & human coordination. As Beiko put it, the journey is about turning the impractical into the inevitable, just as Ethereum has done throughout its first 10 years.
